Empowering Transformation: The Inspiring Journey of 93 Women in Kayonza District

Embarking on a life-changing WfW-Rwanda 12-month socio-economic signature program in July 2022, 93 young mothers and women from Nyamirama and Mukarange sectors, Kayonza District, have recently achieved a remarkable milestone as they graduated on June 27th, 2023. Their journey of transformation has been awe-inspiring.

Building Entrepreneurship and Financial Independence:

With unwavering determination, these individuals have acquired invaluable tailoring skills throughout the program, paving the way for their entrepreneurial ventures and financial independence. Equipped with newfound knowledge, they are now ready to unleash their potential and create thriving small businesses.

Personal Growth and Empowerment:

The graduates testify to their increased awareness of the importance of loans and savings, expressing their readiness to form cooperatives from their existing savings groups. This newfound knowledge is expected to contribute significantly to their personal growth and development.

Godelieve, one of the program participants, shares her profound transformation, highlighting the impact of economic empowerment. She states, "My life before joining the program was filled with misery. However, during this journey, I have gained knowledge and confidence, and my economic situation has significantly improved."

Angelique Mukakiboga, another success story, emphasizes the importance of a balanced diet and announced that she has started her profitable business. "Now I can afford plentiful food, and there is no shortage of food and other household necessities. We are now a peaceful family moving forward," she adds.

Mukakiboga also highlights how the support she received helped her overcome the negative effects of poverty.

Catherine Tunga, a representative of the National Women's Council in Kayonza District, emphasizes the significance of women's empowerment within families and the importance of men supporting women's endeavors. Through comprehensive training and support, participants have been empowered to lead lives free from violence, fostering violence-free households. This achievement holds great importance in the face of the alarming global prevalence of GBV, as participants have gained control over their lives and actively contribute to household decision-making.
