In the heart of KIBERINKA village, a name echoed with a power that belied its simplicity - MUHAWENIMANA Esperance. Her life had known trials and tribulations, beginning with her husband's imprisonment and the tragic loss of her young child. Left adrift by her family-in-law’s rejection, MUHAWENIMANA found herself seeking refuge within the walls of her parent’s home.
The Resilient Spirit
Amidst the shadows of despair, a glimmer of hope emerged. Community leaders rallied, convincing her family-in-law to share her husband's resources. With this newfound support, MUHAWENIMANA's hands began to shape her destiny, one brick at a time. Her modest shelter stood not just as a physical abode but as a testimony to her resilience.
A Stitch in Time
The winds of change carried MUHAWENIMANA to the doorstep of Women for Women Rwanda (WfW-Rwanda). The monthly stipend provided by the program became the cornerstone of stability, allowing her to channel her energy into transformative pursuits. The hum of a sewing machine became her daily symphony, as she embarked on a journey of skill acquisition.
Under the guidance of WfW-Rwanda, MUHAWENIMANA honed not only her tailoring skills but also her social and life skills. With each stitch she meticulously sewed, her confidence grew. Shorts and pants were tamed, and as the canvas of shirts unfurled before her, the promise of mastery beckoned.
Weaving Dreams
Empowerment was no longer an abstract concept for MUHAWENIMANA. She carried a vision beyond her own life, one that embraced the collective strength of women. A spark ignited within her - the dream of a cooperative that would bind women together, woven with threads of financial independence and self-reliance.
In her compelling voice, MUHAWENIMANA rallied her sisters, urging them to discard the shackles of isolation. "Together as women, we can turn our dreams into reality," said MUHAWENIMANA.
With determination burning bright, plans were set in motion to officially register the cooperative, a symbol of unity and shared aspirations.
As the sun set on her journey with WfW-Rwanda, MUHAWENIMANA stood on the threshold of a new chapter. In September 2022, she embarked on a path of transformation, and with each passing day, her skills flourished. The rhythmic dance of needle and thread led her closer to her graduation from the tailoring program in August 2023.
With unwavering resolve, MUHAWENIMANA set her sights on a grand vision - establishing her own tailoring production unit at Ngiryi Gasharu Trading Center. Her dreams expanded beyond the boundaries of her village, as her stitches aimed to leave an indelible mark on the canvas of fashion and empowerment.
