In the heart of Rwamagana, within Rubona Sector, women are experiencing a transformation that is reshaping their lives for the better. This transformation is not just about personal growth but also about breaking free from the shackles of poverty and gender-based discrimination that have held them back for far too long.
Breaking Free from Poverty and Discrimination
98 women residing in Rubona Sector of Rwamagana District are celebrating their progress after gaining self-confidence and resilience through a program that has enabled them to break free from poverty and gender-based discrimination.
These women believe that life has taken a positive turn as they not only provide for their children but also find self-worth, all thanks to the Women for Women Rwanda initiative.
These women's lives have taken a turn for the better as they break free from the cycles of poverty and discrimination. For years, many of them struggled to make ends meet, facing societal norms that restricted their opportunities and relegated them to the sidelines of progress.
Women for Women Rwanda Initiative
Their newfound empowerment is largely attributed to the Women for Women Rwanda initiative. This program serves as a beacon of hope for women in the region, providing them with tools and resources to enhance their self-confidence and resilience.
The 12-month socio-economic program's impact goes beyond just skill acquisition and income generation. It has also helped the participants to live healthier lives, free of gender-based violence (GBV). This is a significant achievement, as GBV is a pervasive issue that affects many women globally. By providing a safe and supportive environment, the program has empowered the participants to take control of their lives and contribute to household decision-making.
Diverse Skill Training
At the core of the Women for Women Rwanda’s initiative is a commitment to empowering women with a diverse range of skills. These skills are carefully designed to equip women with the knowledge and abilities they need to thrive in various aspects of life.
Overall, the WfW-R program has been an excellent initiative to empower young girls and women with valuable skills and knowledge. It's encouraging to see how such programs can make a positive impact on individuals and communities, and we hope to see more of such initiatives in the future.
Financial Support and Janviere's Transformation
In addition to skill development, financial support is a crucial component of this initiative. It provides women with the financial means to pursue their aspirations and become economically independent.
This initiative, which focuses on empowering women more than others, offers diverse skills training, financial support, literacy, and numeracy skills to uplift women. Janvière Twicaranyenimana, one of the program beneficiaries, shares her story. She used to be a woman who believed she couldn't earn any income, but now, she is growing crops and vegetables.
"Now, I own my land, thanks to the training and the stipend I received which was the base of my savings. I now understand the value of being a woman, and I no longer feel helpless like I used to." Said Janvière
Her sister, Mukayirwanda Geraldine, emphasizes the importance of the lessons they have learned about improving their well-being.
"A civilized person among us can build a house and even help those in need. We understand the importance of preventing conflicts and finding peaceful solutions." Said Geraldine
Janviere Twicaranyenimana's story is a testimony to the program's impact. Once a woman who felt powerless and unable to generate income, she has undergone a remarkable transformation. Today, she proudly tends to her crops and vegetable gardens, owning her land and future.

Françoise Ingabire's Call to Action
Françoise Ingabire, Rwamagana district’s Gender and Family Promotion Officer, delivers a passionate call to action. She urges program participants to work together, support one another, and strive for progress as a united force.
"I know you have learned how to save; you have achieved something. Once you learn how to cultivate in groups, there is nothing you won't achieve, and it will strengthen you." Said Ingabire
Set Targets and Collaboration
Ingabire underscores the importance of setting clear targets and collaborating with financial institutions. By doing so, these women can turn their dreams into reality and achieve economic independence.
Impact Beyond Rwamagana
The Women for Women Rwanda initiative extends its positive impact far beyond the borders of Rwamagana. Operating in other districts, to name Bugesera, Gasabo, Kayonza, Kicukiro, Muhanga, and Nyaruguru, it has transformed the lives of many women through year-long training programs.
