From Dreams to Determination: Celebrating the ABADACOGORA Graduation in Rubona

Rubona, Rwamagana District – May 21, 2025 In a joyous and vibrant celebration, 72 adolescent girls from the ABADACOGORA program graduated in Rubona Sector, marking a powerful moment of transformation and triumph.

Organized by Women for Women Rwanda, in collaboration with the Rwamagana District, the graduation honoured the incredible journey of girls who dared to dream again after facing school dropout, poverty, family conflict, and early pregnancies.

The atmosphere was electric. Guests were welcomed with music, dance, and wide smiles as the girls confidently stepped forward—not just to receive their certificates, but to step into a brighter, more hopeful future.

Empowering Girls with Skills, Knowledge, and Confidence

Over ten months, the girls were equipped with vocational skills in knitting, leatherwork (including shoemaking and crafting belts), and vital life lessons on sexual and reproductive health, savings, and entrepreneurship. These trainings didn’t just offer practical knowledge—they restored self-belief.

“After dropping out of school, I felt lost and hopeless. But now, after learning knitting, I feel joyful and have a new direction in life,” shared one of the graduates.
“I’m grateful to Women for Women Rwanda for this opportunity. What I’ve learned is the key to wealth, and I plan to use it to improve my life and teach others,” said another, who trained in leatherwork.

The graduates also showcased their products—beautifully knitted clothes and handmade leather items—demonstrating their readiness to join the workforce or launch their own businesses.

Voices of Change

In a moving address, Mukashyaka Chantal, Executive Secretary of Rubona Sector, applauded the girls’ growth:

“These girls are no longer just future leaders—they are leaders now. The ABADACOGORA program equips them not only with skills but with courage. Our community is stronger when our girls are empowered.”

Divine Mukaneza, speaking on behalf of her peers, offered a heartfelt testimony:

“Before this program, I didn’t believe in myself. I had dropped out in P6. Today, I stand tall—confident, skilled, and hopeful. I want to go back to school and reach my full potential.”

Her story reflects the essence of the ABADACOGORA journey: from silence to voice, from hesitation to confidence, and from dreams to determination.

A Promise of Continued Support

The event drew participation from local authorities, families, and partners who pledged ongoing support to ensure the girls’ progress continues. Munana Yves, from Women for Women Rwanda, reminded the graduates:

“When you gain knowledge, no one can take it away. This is a tool that will serve you for life.”

The graduation wasn’t just a celebration; it was a call to action—for communities to stand behind their girls and for the girls themselves to walk boldly into the future.
