On May 31, 2025, we gathered with joy in Mareba Sector, Bugesera District, to celebrate the graduation of 100 incredible women who successfully completed our Stronger Women, Stronger Nations (SWSN) program.
Over the past 12 months, these women have gone through an intensive training journey focused on health, financial literacy, rights awareness, and market-relevant agriculture and livestock practices. The graduation was a powerful moment to reflect on their achievements and the transformations they’ve experienced, both as individuals and as a community.
One of the graduates shared,
“Before, I had no idea how to stand on my own. Today, I’m managing my home, saving in our group, and even bought a goat. My children are back in school, and I feel confident about tomorrow.”
Another proudly added,
“This program changed my mindset. I used to feel like I had no options. Now, I’m part of a savings group, I understand family planning, and my home is healthier and more hopeful.”
During the event, our Board Chairperson, Marie Chantal Ingabire, encouraged the graduates to continue using what they’ve learned to shape brighter futures.
“This graduation isn’t an ending; it’s a new beginning. You’ve gained the knowledge and power to continue changing your lives, and we’re proud of you.”
As a practical step forward, each graduate received a goat, a meaningful asset that supports organic farming and income generation. Through this gift, we’re reinforcing what they’ve learned in sustainable agriculture while helping them grow their livelihoods at home.
We were also honoured by the presence of Janvier Mukanyandwi, from the District Women's Council, who reminded the women:
“The strength of a nation begins in strong homes. You are building that strength.”
She also pledged to advocate on their behalf for access to advanced irrigation systems, recognizing the critical role water plays in strengthening their agricultural efforts and sustaining the progress they’ve made through the program.
The energy in Mareba was unforgettable. These women are not just graduates, they are leaders, role models, and catalysts for change in their communities. Through the SWSN program, they’ve shown what’s possible when women have access to knowledge, resources, and solidarity.
